The castle is located in Closeburn, Scotland, not far from Kirkpatrick-Fleming from which my own history emanates. It dates roughly from the late 13th century. It was owned by Kirkpatricks until the mid 18th century and again starting in the early 1980’s. It remains occupied by Kirkpatricks to this day.
The tower is 15 (46′) x 10 meters (33′) x 15 meters in height. It is furnished. The smaller buildings were added in the 17th century.
After our mid-November visit I will tell more about it and the Kirkpatrick history surrounding it.

Did you do the ink drawing of the Castle?! Very nice.
I did indeed.
Been trying to look up my grandparents. My great grandfather on my mom’s side was a Kirkpatrick and I just wanted to know if the family was still around and the history behind it a little more as my parents are both gone.
I was trying to find some past history of my grandfather‘s surname Kirkpatrick and the family. I’m very interested in learning more about where my grandparents came from as both my parents are gone.
There is a lot known about the Kirkpatricks. For a start you can read my post and . These two links will give you some very interesting history, The first Kirkpatrick was Ivone around 1132, when the surname came into being pursuant to an edict requiring the adoption of surnames. The Kirkpatricks hold a baronetcy to this day, although no one occupies the office currently. Look up either Kirkpatrick castle or Closeburn Castle (they are the same). The Kirkpatrick castle is still there. You can visit. Hope this gets you going.
Need to look more into this as I am a Kirkpatrick.
You will probably find it very interesting. The Kirkpatricks are not as obscure as one might think.
