These beautifully painted small houses are in Zalpie, a tiny village in southwest Poland. According to one website, before they installed modern heating systems, wood burning stoves spewed soot on the houses inside and out. The Ethnographic Museum of Tarnow organizes a cottage painting competition in June. In addition to the houses they paint barns, furniture, and fences.
